This Great White Egret (Egretta alba) was photographed by Dean Eades who spotted the bird flying over Humberstone in Lincolnshire earlier this week.

Great white egrets are rare annual visitors to the UK. They're more normally seen in swampy habitats around Africa, Mediterranean areas and parts of Europe.

Great white egrets are particularly impressive herons, not just because of their all white plumage and graceful flight, but also because of their size. They have a wingspan which can reach up to 170cm.
