Scientific name:  Lycoperdon caudatum

Size:  Grows up to 50mm across

Distribution:  Found throughout the UK

Months seen:  July to October

Habitat:  Woodland

Special features:  Pedicel puffballs have a rounded top on on a short, stubby stem.  They are white when young, becoming brown later.  The surface is covered in short spines, which wear away with age leaving a net like pattern.

Pedicel puffballs produce brown coloured spores.
