Description: Discovering more about moths with the help of humane light traps is a fascinating and fast growing hobby. Putting a moth trap out in the garden at dusk, and going through the catch in the morning is an easy and enjoyable way to find out what insects visit your garden in the small hours of the night.

The Johnson Safari Moth Trap is an ultra light weight humane moth trap. It's
ideal for survey work, population counts, collecting specimens and breeding programs.

How it Works: Based around the popular funnel design, moths are lured to the bright bulb and then tumble into the net trap below.

The whole trap glows at night which increses the attraction of insectsThe translucent body of this trap is made from netting with a high light transmission. The portion of UV light which strikes the net fibres is re-emitted as a luminous glow, which increases the attraction of insects.

The attraction can be further increased by placing the trap on a white sheet.

It's perfect for trapping garden moths at night, and there's no need to stay up all night. You can set it up in the evening and go to bed. In the morning turn the light off, and check your catch. You'll be amazed at the amount, and variety, of colourful moths inside.

Cardboard egg boxes are often placed in moth trap bases to encourage moths to settle down. However, the net sides of the Safari Trap encourage the moths to grip and settle, so egg boxes may not be required.

If required, the trap can be suspended in a tree. There is a strap, with two removable metal rings, sewn into the cage for this purpose. This strap doubles as a tether for staking the trap to the ground in windy conditions.
