Quick Facts

Scientific name:  Mangora acalypha

Size:  Up to 4mm

Distribution:  Found in the south of England and Wales

Months seen:  Mostly seen May to August

Habitat:  Mostly found on gorse, and other shrubs and bushes

Food:  Small invertebrates

Special features:  Cricket Bat Spiders can be recognised by that black cricket bat-shaped marking on the top of the abdomenen.  There is usually some black striping on the sides on the sides of the abdomen too.  There may also be some yellow or brown striping on the sides of the abdomen.
