Flower Butterfly Orchid

Latin name: Platanthera chlorantha

Size: Grows to a height of around 60cms.

Distribution: Found throughout the UK.

Flowering months: May to July.

Habitat: Woodlands and grassland.

Special features: The flowers of the butterfly orchid have a vanilla scent. Only insects with long tongues, such as butterflies and moths, will be able to appreciate the nectar from this plant.
Each of the flowers have a long, narrow tube shaped lip.
