Red Admiral

This aberrant* Red Admiral was spotted in Wombwell, South Yorkshire in October 2006.

At first glance it looks similar to any other Red Admiral, but the hind wings are much paler.  The areas which should be black are a sooty orange colour and the red stripe is just a burnt out shade of orange.

It's likely this was caused by high temperatures in the summer during the chrysalis stage.

*aberrant simply means deviating from the normal.
