Moth  Magpie Moth

Latin name: Abraxas grosulariata

Size: Wingspan approximately 45mm

Distribution: Found throughout the UK.

Months seen: June to August.

Habitat: Woodlands, gardens and hedgerows.

Food: The larvae feed on hawthorn, blackthorn and hazel.

Special features: The markings on the magpie moth can be quite variable, but they are usually black and white with some orange markings.
