Bird  Whitethroat

Latin name: Sylvia communis

Size: Approximately 15cms.

Distribution: Found in most parts of the UK.

Months seen: April to October

Food: Small insects and berries.

Habitat: Woodlands and hedgerows

Special features: The male whitethroat has a grey coloured head, while the female has a pale brown head. Both the male and female have red-brown wing patches and cream coloured chest. As the name suggests, the throat is white.
