Kestrel Hovering - Photo © Copyright 2004 Tony Margiocchi
Kestrel Hovering by Tony Margiocchi

This photo of a kestrel hovering above the A507 near Arlesey was sent in by Tony Margiocchi. It was taken using a Nikon D1X and an 80-400 (f4.5-5.6). Tony said "With the 1.5 times conversion this gives around 600mm at 5.6 so it’s a useful lens. This lens also benefits from 'vibration reduction' so for olduns like me, at nearly 50 years, we can use it hand held. This was snapped from a car window and as long as the snapper sits quietly, a car makes an excellent hide, no real need for looking like a marine commando to get a picture like this - just patience."
