Sedge Warblers - Photo © Copyright 2004 Bob Ball
Sedge Warblers by Bob Ball

This photo of a Sedge Warbler feeding it’s chick was sent in by Bob Ball who took the photo using a Nikon D70 and an 80mm-400mm vr lens at 400mm.

Here's how Bob got the shot in his own words...

"I had been taking shots of an adult Warbler when what I thought was another one flew out from cover and landed a short distance away. Walking over to investigate I saw it was a juvenile, shouting for food, so I began shooting that when the food arrived.

It was taken on a track with thick foliage on each side that runs round the perimeter of a local reservoir in Nottinghamshire, much used by walkers, joggers and cyclists. No hide was used. I just kept walking up and down a small area waiting for one to settle. Young birds, fresh out of nest, stay in a relatively small area. I returned the next day and did not see or hear one! Just really lucky to catch the moment."
