Tawny Owl by Steven Fryer

Click Here Send this Photo as a Postcard

This shot of a Tawny Owl was taken by Steven Fryer using a Canon EOS 300 SLR with a 100-400mm EF lens and a 1.4xll extender taking it to 600mm.

Here's how he got the shot...

"I took the tawny owl photo at a place called Rowlands Gill. I see the owl quite often on its favourite perch, and it doesn't seem bothered by my presence. I think I've got a shot of the same owl when it was first out the nest, so maybe it's just used to me being around.

I drive down the road and stop at the tree where the owl perches. I get out my lights and start shooting away. The owl doesn't move and carries on hunting with the occasional look as if to say: I'm still watching you. Don't try to get any closer!".
