Quick Facts

Scientific name:  Corvus corone

Size:  Approx 45cm

Distribution:  Found throughout the UK

Months seen:  All year round

Life Span: Over 17 years (source BTO)

Habitat:  Farmland, towns, parks and roadsides where they sometimes feed on roadkills

Food:  Just about anything: Omnivorous

Special features:  Carrion Crows found south of the Scottish border nearly always have all black plumage with a metallic green-blue sheen.  More northerly crows have grey bodies with black head and wing patches (see: Hooded Crows).  Sometimes the two species interbreed producing hybrids.
