Latin name: Pentatoma rufipes

Size: Up to 15mms long

Distribution: Found throughout the UK.

Months seen: June to October

Food: Mainly sap. Sometimes other insects

Habitat: As the name suggests mainly found in wooded areas especially on oak and alder trees.

Special features: The forest bug can be distinguished from other shield bugs by its square shoulders. It looks like it's wearing American football players padding. It is a dark bronze-brown colour with orange legs. The antennae are about the same length as the body.
