Latin name: Cordulegaster boltonii

Size: Wingspan approximately 90mms.

Distribution: Found in some parts of the U.K. Absent from Ireland, east Scotland and the Midlands.

Months seen: May to September.

Habitat: Prefers flowing streams. Often seen away from water over heaths and moorland.

Food: Flying insects.

Special features: This is one of our largest dragonflies. Its green eyes and black body marked with gold rings differentiate it from any other species.
