Egret Little Egret

UK Safari Tip:
Large groups of Little Egrets can be seen at Chichester Harbour in West Sussex and Poole Harbour in Dorset in the winter months.

Latin name: Egretta garzetta

Size: Wingspan up to 100cms

Distribution: Can be seen in many parts of England and Wales, especially along the south and east coasts.

Months seen: All year round.

Food: Fish, frogs and snails

Habitat: Shallow water around lakes, reservoirs, rivers, streams and estuaries.

Special features: The little egret stands about 50 to 60cms tall. It has bright white plumage and an almost black beak. The legs are black with bright yellow toes.
